Safety and Health Trainings The Worker Center is glad to be able to offer participatory trainings in which workers are able to discuss issues like fear of losing ones job, learn about the top risks and causes of death on the job, OSHA protections, and personal protective equipment.
Build a Better Texas Campaign The Houston Interfaith Worker Justice Center forms part of the statewide Build a Better Texas Coaliton, headed up by our sister worker center Workers' Defense Project in Austin. The purpose of the coalition is to improve working conditions in the Texas construction industry.The statistics are staggering. Every 2.5 days a construction worker dies on the job in Texas. Less than half of construction workers are covered by workers' compensation, 64% have never recieved OSHA's most basic 10-hour training, 41% do not recieve rest breaks.
